Bull Canyon

Bull Canyon takes you to a hiking trail which leads to the bottom of the Gemini Bridges. On the way out, you pass the distinctive "Gooney Bird Rock"...

where it is considered "good luck" to run over the Gooney's foot...

At the end of the road, you have a 15-20 minute hike to get to the bottom of the Gemini Bridges...

RZR EBS Warning

My 2015 RZR 900 XC is equipped with an Engine Braking System (EBS) which normally does a good job slowing the machine on downhill inclines. However, much to my surprise and dismay, I discovered that on very steep, long sections of sandstone here in Moab, it will actually cause the drive belt to smoke when in four wheel low. Apparently, the traction is so good the tires will not slide and the force on the belt is so strong that it begins to slip and heat up.

Once hot, the belt stuck to the clutch and would not let go. The only way for me to change gears was to shut off the engine, shift gears and then restart the engine. Fortunately, once the belt cooled down, everything returned to normal and it appears no permanent damage was done. I now shift into four wheel high on steep downhills and use the brake to control speed. Anyone else have this problem?

Thrillseekers

I think my reputation as a risk-averse, safety-first operator of off-road vehicles is being tarnished by the wild and crazy adrenaline junkies I ride with...

Obviously, I would never condone this type of reckless and irresponsible behavior and therefore should not be held accountable for same by wives &/or girlfriends of such riders.

Chicken Corners

Bob and Norma from the Arizonian RV Park joined Cory and me for a ride out to Chicken Corners, an easy, scenic trail along the south side of the Colorado River.

First Moab ride in RZR

Is an 8+ rated trail with several extreme obstacles such as "High Dive", "Upchuck" and "White Knuckle"...

Steel Bender

After three days of bad weather, cabin fever was starting to set in so Cory and I did a half day run of the northern end of Steel Bender.

Dead Horse State Park & Long Canyon

They were predicting high winds for the Moab area so Cory and I took his truck up to Dead Horse State Park where you have views like this...

and photo opportunities like this...

When you drive down Long Canyon, this is a must take photo...

And at the bottom of the canyon is the Jug Handle Arch...

Fins N Things & Hells Revenge

Cory drove up from the Arizonian yesterday and we rode Fins N Things and Hells Revenge. Unfortunately, the photos do not show how steep these inclines are...

Tonight was Wings Nite at the Moab Brewery. Rumor has it this table set a new indoor record for creating the largest mess while eating 100 wings...

Metal Masher

I joined the wild and slightly crazy crew from Nebraska to ride Metal Masher which definitely lives up to its name as a 7 out of 10 trail for difficulty. Although there are alternatives to the extreme rock crawling sections, it is still not a ride a novice would want to undertake.

Here are some photos of the beauty...

Who says there are no "real men" left

Carol and I making the "Widow Maker" look easy

There was one "incident" where a tree jumped out in front of Larry and Carol's RZR and ate the radiator...

Fortunately, the tree was not hurt

Everyone returned home safe and sound with lots of tall tales for future campfire conversations.

Tuba City, AZ

I am on my way to Moab. Tonight, I am staying in Tuba City, Arizona which is part of the Navajo Nation, a Native American governed territory covering 27,425 square miles in portions of northeastern Arizona, southeastern Utah, and northwestern New Mexico.

If you are ever in the area, the Navajo Interactive Museum is a worthwhile visit. Having seen the movie Windtalkers, I found the code talkers exhibit particularly interesting (the Japanese were never able to break their code during WWII).

PS - the weather forecast is a low near freezing tonight!

Last one out, turn off the lights

It's getting pretty quite here in the RV park as most of the "snowbirds" are heading home for Easter...

The good news is it's much easier to get into a restaurant without a long wait...

In case you were wondering what the beautiful people were doing today

My current plans are to head up to Moab, UT April 12 where I will spend the next two months. Am looking forward to exploring some new territory with the Jeep.
