Maggie Mine Slot Canyon

Wow! How often do you get to drive and hike a narrow slot canyon? Maggie Mine Slot Canyon is not easy to find or get to but is definitely worth the effort. After leaving I-40 you follow a rough, dirt road about 50 miles before turning into the canyon. Most of the time the scenery is primarily Joshua trees and jackrabbits the size of small kangaroos. As there are no signs to the canyon itself, I have uploaded a track to Gaia GPS where you will be able to view data on the ride and download the file in several different formats.

Do not attempt to drive the canyon in a vehicle larger than a jeep. As you will see in the video, there are some very tight spots...

Lastly, there are several spur canyons off the main one that are suitable for hiking only...

Did you leave any red paint on those brown rocks? And......... that might have been a good opportunity to fire up that drone. Looks like your still having fun Jim. Keep up the good work.

  2. Fortunately, I did not lose any red paint but for a while I thought I was going to be spending some time at Earl Scheib. I took the drone with me but chose not to fly it without more practice. There was very little room for error in that canyon.

  3. Did you need to go back the way you came or does the trail lead to Alamo Lake and out to 95?

  4. You can get to Alamo Lake from the canyon, but to get to 95 you have to take a bunch of no-name dirt trails. I would suggest using mapping software to create a track for your GPS as there are no directions out there and it would be easy to get lost. I would also highly recommend you travel with another vehicle in case you have problems. There is no cell service and if you were to become stranded, it would be a very long time before they found you.

Could you give us directions from Lake Havasu? Please

  6. Take I-40 east to exit 20 (West Santa Fe Road) and then follow the track I uploaded to Gaia GPS (link is in the post). It's a long drive and there is not much out there once you leave the Interstate so prepare appropriately.

Can you go off-road from Parker to the canyon

  10. There may be an off-road way to get to the canyon, but I am not aware of one.
