As the title of the post suggests, we were in pine tree country...
Where we encountered a major roadblock...
Fortunately, we had a professional logger with us...
At the top of the mountain, we were rewarded with views like this...
I even had my own stone recliner from which to enjoy lunch with a view...

but how did he remove the log from the road?
After he cut the end off, five guys were able to roll the other end to the side of the trail. Apparently, the tree was completely rotten and a lot lighter than it appeared.
I recently talked to our HVAC guy and he does off roading in the mountains east of Boise and he said that they carry a chainsaw in order to cut down logs after the winter. One time, he said they cut over 400 obstacles during one ride !!
Back in 2012 I rode Hells Canyon in western Idaho and all the guides had chainsaws on their rigs.
