TireRack.com

Last Tuesday I ordered a Kumho run flat tire from TireRack.com in the morning.  They shipped it that afternoon.  It arrived the next morning.  I had it installed that afternoon.  If only the rest of life would go that well.

Weird Science

This is a pretty cool experience and definitely one of the mysteries as to how the human brain works.  There are no loud noises or things that jump out at you.  It is completely legit.
  1. Click on the link below (do not follow this link if you're subject to seizures or vertigo)
  2. Then "click me to get trippy" on the page the link brings up,
  3. Look at the center of the screen for at least 30 seconds (no cheating), and then
  4. Look at your hand holding the mouse, without moving it away from the mouse.

If you are like me, you will be surprised at what you see.  I am told it is called "cenesthetic hallucination".

Liquid Assets

I am considering a new retirement portfolio...
  • If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Delta Airlines one year ago, you would have $49.00 today.
  • If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in AIG one year ago, you would have $33.00 today.
  • If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Lehman Brothers one year ago, you would have $0.00 today.
  • But, if you had purchased $1,000 worth of beer one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the aluminum cans for a recycling refund, you would have received $214.00.
  • Based on the above, the best current investment plan is to drink heavily & recycle. It is called the 401-Keg.
  • A recent study found that the average American walks about 900 miles a year.
  • Another study found that Americans drink, on average, 22 gallons of alcohol a year.
  • That means that, on average, Americans get about 41 miles to the gallon!
Makes you proud to be an American!

PC Remote Access Software

There are times when I am on the road with my laptop that I would like to access my desktop at home.  TeamViewer software solves the problem by giving me complete control of a remote PC via the Internet - it's like sitting in front of your computer at home.  There is even a feature that allows you to collaborate with others.  Best of all, it's free for non-commercial users!

Okefenokee Swamp

For you real dare devils, Okefenokee Adventures offers a three day canoe/kayak trip across the Okefenokee including two nights camping in the swamp.  Unfortunately, I am allergic to rattle mouth cotton vipers and therefore unable to make the trip...

Government Versus Individuals

With slight tongue-in-cheek consider the following:

If I obtain money from an individual or business by coercion or intimidation, it is called "extortion". If the government does it, it's called "taxation".

If I run a numbers racket, it is called "gambling". If the government does it, it's called a "lottery".

If I sell liquor without paying taxes, it is called "bootlegging". If the government does it, it's called "alcohol beverage control".

If I create a business that does not allow competition, it is called a "monopoly". If the government does it, it's called a "department, bureau, agency, etc.".

Cumberland Falls "Moonbow"

Last weekend I visited the Cumberland Falls State Park in Kentucky to see a moonbow. It is like a rainbow but is created by the light of the moon, not the sun. Here is a photo taken at 10:00 p.m. with a five minute exposure...
